Adding New Connections with Host Discovery

A new feature to 2.0 is the addition of Host Discovery.  With Host Discovery, the Console can scan a range of IP addresses to detect any installed Beyond Remote Hosts.

To begin using the Host Discovery, simply mouse-over the Host Discovery button (seen here in red) from any one of the Console screens.

Once the Host Discovery pane slides out, you can "pin" it down with the pin in the upper right hand corner.

To begin the host discovery process, enter a beginning and ending IP address and the port you are using to connect to these hosts and select "Start Scan".  Installed Beyond Remote Hosts will begin to appear in the window titled "Beyond Remote Hosts Found".  Once the scan is complete, select the folder in connection manager that you would like to add the connections to, edit your list of hosts you would like to create connections for, and select "Add to current folder ->".  All of the selected Hosts will be added to your connection manager.  What used to take hours on large networks, now takes just a few minutes!

Host Discovery Options

By selecting the Options button within Host Discovery, you can:
  • Select All - Will select all of the hosts found to be included when you create connections.
  • Deselect All - Will deselect all of the hosts found so they will not be included when creating new connections.
  • Timeout - You can select the timeout period Host Discovery will use with each IP address when searching the IP range you specify.
  • "When Adding New Connection Use..." - This option will allow you to specify whether you want to use the DNS name or the IP address when creating the new connection settings in connection manager.
