There are a couple of things you can do above and beyond having a faster Internet connection between the Beyond Remote client and server to increase the performance of Beyond Remote.
1. Use the "Enable GDI Hooks" option. This will typically drop the CPU usage on the server side dramatically. To use this feature, first connect to the server and then in the client viewer click the system icon in the top left corner of the screen. A menu will appear, select the "Enable GDI Hooks" menu item. This feature still has a small problem when logging out of Windows 2000, 2003 or XP, the screen will stop drawing. You must turn off the GDI hooks option to log back in and then turn it back on once your logged in.
2. Adjusting the "Hardware Acceleration" for your video card. Beyond Remote is optimized to make use of the newer highend video cards but unfortunaly not everyone has them and on some computers (especially servers like Windows 2000/2003 server) video performance is not a concern. Let me give you an example... I just recently purchased a new Dell server, it's a quad processor with 8GB of RAM and what I would consider a high end server (for our environment). I loaded Beyond Remote on it and immediatly knew there was a problem because all of my interaction with the remote desktop was VERY slow. Why? Because Dell put a 8MB PCI video card in a $32,000.00 computer!!! But the fix to this was very easy. I turned down the hardware acceleration for the video card until Beyond Remotes performance was where I thought it should be. In my case I ended up turning the hardware acceleration all the way down. But by doing this the performance gains were tremendous. To turn down your hardware accelleration go to the CONTROL PANEL and select DISPLAY. A dialog box will now appear with some tabs across the top, select the "Setting" tab and then click the "Advanced" button. Next, click the "Troubleshooting" tab and turn down the Hardware Acceleration slider one notch and click the "Apply" button. Try Beyond Remote out and see if that helps, if not keep repeating the process by turning it down one notch at a time until you reach the optimal performance. _________________ Michael Berg
