Note: This FAQ is only for computer that are PRE XP Service Pack 2.
One possible reason is that you have the built in firewall turned on in Windows XP and it's not allowing the client to connect.
The Beyond Remote server listens for connections on TCP port 5424.
To open port 5424 when using the Windows XP firewall do the following:
Click START and then CONTROL PANEL and then NETWORK CONNECTIONS. At this point you will see all of the network connections your computer has. You will need to determine which network connection the client is trying to connect on (for most people you will only have one called "Local Area Network"). Right click on the network connection and select Properties. A dialog box will now appear with three tabs across the top, click the Advanced tab. If your firewall is enabled you will have a check mark next to "Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet". If this check mark is not present then there is a different reason as to why you can not connect to this computer. If you do have a check mark, click the Settings button on the bottom right of the dialog box. Another dialog box will now appear, click the Add button and enter "Beyond Remote" to the Description of service field. Next, enter the IP address of the computer you are using. For external and internal port numbers enter 5424 and make sure TCP is selected.
That's it, click ok on all of the dialog boxes and Beyond Remote should work on that computer. _________________ Michael Berg
